Every big idea starts somewhere ordinary. For me, it started with a pile of dirty laundry.
I grew up with my parents in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, and studied Computer Science at Crescent University, Abeokuta. But when an internship brought me to Lagos, I found myself somewhere I barely knew, a big, fast-moving city where I had no network and no idea how things worked. After a demanding first week on the job, I ran into a problem that felt almost embarrassingly small: I needed my clothes washed, and I didn't know a single vendor who could do it.
So I did what anyone in my position would do, I went looking. With a friend by my side, I walked from building to building. Google Maps wasn't much help either; the vendors it surfaced weren't anywhere close, which meant hopping on bus after bus just to reach someone I could trust with my clothes. By the time I found one, an entire weekend was gone.
At the time, it just felt like Lagos being Lagos. I shrugged it off and went back to work.
Then, a few days later, hunger hit me at my desk, a craving for meat pie from Chicken Republic. Without a second thought, I opened Chowdeck, tapped a few times, and minutes later, food was on its way to me.
And that's when it hit me.
Why was ordering food this easy, but getting my clothes washed had cost me an entire weekend and several bus fares? If food could come to me at the tap of a button, why couldn't laundry?
I went looking for an answer, for anyone in Nigeria already solving this problem. What I found wasn't a shortage of laundry businesses. There were plenty of them. What was missing was a simple, reliable way for people to discover them, book their services, track their orders, and know exactly when their clothes would be ready.
As a computer science student who couldn't resist a good problem, that gap stopped looking like an inconvenience and started looking like an opportunity hiding in plain sight.
But I knew a problem this size couldn't be solved alone. I started pulling in people who saw what I saw: Adeyemi Uthman came on as co-founder; Musa Abdulmaqaddas took on frontend development and the CTO role; Oshodi Khalif, Liasu Aanuoluwapo, and Oduwole Taofeek built out the backend; Fawaz Afolabi, James, and Cyrus Abiola shaped the visual identity; and Adekiya Seun led the push to get the word out. Nine of us, one shared conviction.
Together, we didn't just brainstorm. We tested the idea against reality through research, surveys, and real conversations with people stuck in the same loop I'd been in. What came back confirmed what that Chowdeck order had already told me: Nigeria's laundry market wasn't short on demand. It was short on structure, transparency, and trust.
That's the gap we set out to close. Not just a way to order laundry, but an upgrade to how it works altogether: real-time tracking so no one is left guessing, turnaround times people can actually count on, and a system that gives vendors the visibility and throughput they need to grow.
